Didn't go well at all. Compressor problems led to issues with the ice; they had to delay the games until after the sun went down.
Michigan and Michigan State played outdoors last year in Detroit in the GLI, so ticket sales were extremely sluggish. The announced attendance was 22,751, but if you caught the games on Fox and BTN, you know that was generous. I believe the crowd probably would have fit into Ralston Arena.
I think outdoor games are still a good idea, and would love to see UNO try another one in a year or two. Especially if this team continues to progress the way I think they are. But it's way too easy to overdo these games, and I think that's the lesson to be learned from the Hockey City Classic.
I also still love outdoor games and people who say there are too many are making the wrong argument. I also think having a neutral site game for college teams was a terrible idea. The reasons the rivalry has worked well in the past was being on campus sites. Just my two cents.
