It would be great to hear loud and rousing participation from the crowd for the Canadian National Anthem. Print and bring lyrics with you for yourself and your neighbors:

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

We have enough trouble with our own...
We have enough trouble finding one person not to embarrass us singing the Canadian Anthem...

Let's keep it simple until we get it right.

Here's to hoping Andrea Eischen or Jimmy Webber make an appearance -- they know how to do it right. (I'd even settle for Theresa 'Fox Kids' Cassidy.)

SAM, three years ago I organized an octet to sing both Canadian and US anthem in four-part harmony. Mike Walsh, former team orthopod, was among the choir. We nailed both versions. Don't confuse what happens at the UNO hockey games with some YouTube you watched somewhere.

That being said, one way to avoid embarrassment in singing the visiting team's anthem is to KNOW THE WORDS.

I have been in CENTURYLINK CENTER OMAHA for some downright horrific smurfups when it comes to national anthems -- TWICE it has been the Canadian National Anthem.

Don't confuse your self-proclaimed brilliance for actual brilliance.

He and his octet may have been brilliant, but that doesn't mean that "what happens at UNO games" is always brilliant.

I would love nothing more than to get good crowd participation for a national anthem, love watching Canadians do that at World Juniors or what have you. But why wouldn't we hope for good crowd participation of our anthem first?

We can't participate in our own National Anthem because too many singers turn it into their own person audition for American Idol.

National Anthems are NOT open for personal interpretation -- sing them as they were written, it is the only respectful way to go about it.

Tracking SAMs comments is like watching someone with ADHD in a room with thousands of shiny objects.

Here's a link to music, English, and French lyrics. Looking forward to some HOCKEY tonight!

I agree 100% with SAM on this one. Call me old fashioned but I just cringe when I hear most of the renditions of the National Anthem I hear at the Clink. There is only one speed, one melody for it. The little kids do a better job than most.

The problem with doing something right the first time is nobody understands how difficult it was.

Any time the monkey in the room wants to stop throwing twizzlers is fine by me... until then I'm going to go chase a squirrel.

Maybe. He's spot on in this thread though. Which again, isn't to say your performance wasn't brilliant.

I wish Great Britain had hockey teams that toured the U.S. for exhibitions...so we could debate whether or not we should sing "God Save the Queen"...

OK, tonight's performances were definitely subpar. First, neither of the anthems were written to be dirges, and they should not be sung as such. Second, the Canadian anthem singer departed from the score at least three times, although the lyrics were correct. Third, the quartet that did the US anthem faced the wrong way, and at least two of the two male singers were horribly off-key throughout the anthem.

I'm stopping by the SID office tomorrow and volunteering my group for next year's season exhibition game. At least we got game!

Oh my God, YES!!! I cannot stand it when somebody butchers the anthem trying to overdo it. Millions of men and women lost their lives for that song to be sang, not destroyed.

The aging happens to all of us. She still looks plenty good to me. A little faster tempo and her rendtion of the anthem would have been fantastic. Still better than most they have had in the past.

Really?

I give Fox Kids an A-... she kept to it except for the penultimate line.
And aside from the micing issues, the harmony singers were alright.
