I don't know what I can all say about this guy. I wasn't around here to be a Mav fan when he was here and really didn't know much about him as a member of Nashville. I was excited when Minnesota signed him though because I thought it'd be cool to have a Mav on the team.
Having watched him all last year though, I now know the guy is a smurfin animal. To be among the top 10 in blocked shots for 4 straight years is insane. There was one particular shift I thought of from last year and in the link there's an article but you have to be sure to watch the video clip too. Insane the heart that guy has to do what he does to throw himself in front of a puck. I know they get paid a crap ton to do what they do but twizzlers. And what a beard to boot.
Zanman was and is a special breed. He remains my all time favorite Mav player. You are correct, he is by definition a complete animal. The interesting part is that his game has completely evolved from when he was at UNO... when he was here, he was very similar to Del Grosso. He was more of an offensive minded defenseman(killer shot) and to me did not seem all that steady in the defensive zone at that time(maybe he was better than I thought at the time)... took more chances I guess. But now, he has transformed into one of the steadiest defensive guys in the league and he comes at a great price... very reasonable salary for what he gets done. The beard is a classic as you have noted. He fits in great for the Wild...
I'd be cool to have him back for a game/weekend series/event some time in the not too distant future. M/SP isn't that far away...Or, perhaps he'll be in MSP during the 10/15-16/2010 weekend. Road Trip? Zanimation, UNO sweater in the stands for a Wild game?
