Just got a letter that says the price of an alumni membership to the HPER athletic center will be increasing to $525/year. You also have to give a donation to the alumni assocation to even have this "privilege", so it would be more like $550 or about $45/month. Needless to say, I am not renewing. It's been a steady increase every year and I'm not gonna put up with it any more.

When I graduated in 2007, it cost around $250-$300 to have an alumni membership. Back then, it was a good deal. I realize they've completely renovated the place since then, but they are smoking some serious crack if they think alumni are going to pay that much to use a building where:
*the hours suck (only open until 11 PM on weeknights and even earlier during school breaks)
*you have to park half a mile away in Elmwood or risk parking without a permit
*the construction isn't even completed yet

The only benefit the place had (an indoor track) has been removed and I have no idea when/if another one is going to be put in. For me, it's actually less useful then before they started renovating it (yea the equipment was old and the place was a dump, but it had everything I needed as far as equipment).

I can get a 3-year membership to 24-hour fitness for $450 through Costco. I know who will be getting my money this year. Hopefully UNO can find enough suckers to pay for the renovations without jacking up the student fees too much.

I think maybe they're trying to *discourage* community (i.e., alumni) memberships, in order to focus on student usage. .....
